Hello viewers! Great Synonym welcomes you to another informative and educational blog post. The topic of today’s blog post is “3 syllable words”. Just read the blog post till the end. I hope that all of you will enjoy the reading and learn new words. In this blog post, we will learn what syllable words are. We will also provide you with the list of 3 syllable words. In the end, we will see the advantages of learning these words.
Introduction:
I will surely give you a complete sight of 3 syllable words. But first, let’s understand what are syllable words and what are their uses.
Syllable words:
A unit of pronunciation that gives a sound of at least one vowel is called a syllable. Such words are called syllable words. It doesn’t matter if these words have consonants or not.
Example:
Examples of syllable words are van, man, car, jar, etc.
The middle letter is a vowel “a” in all the given words. The letter before the vowel is called onset and the letter after the vowel is called coda. Both coda and vowel letters combine to give rhymes. In this example, our first two words have “an” sound at the end, and the last two words have “ar” sound at the end. Both “an” and “ar” are representing rhymes here. All the onset, vowel, and coda combine to make a syllable. In some cases, we see syllable is a combination of onset and vowel.
Now you all understand what are the syllable words. No rule says that there can only be one syllable in a single word. What if a single word is having more than one syllable? Now we will talk about such words.
Words having more than one syllable:
As I said earlier many words contain more than one syllable. An example of such words is:
- Children: In this word, it is obvious there are two vowels. One part is “Chil” and the other part is “dren”. Now we can see a division of the word makes two syllables. Our first syllable is “Chil” and the second one is “dren”. Such Words having 2 syllables are called 2-syllable words.
3 Syllable words:
Such words that contain three syllables are called 3 syllable words. It is like the division of words into three parts and these parts are syllables. And how to divide these words I’ll tell you in a moment. Now we see the example of 3 syllable words:
- Banana: In this word, we can see there are three vowels. We will divide the word into 3 parts. This will give us three syllables in a single word which are “ba”, “na”, and “na”.
Division of Syllables:
There is a simple rule to divide for the division of syllables. To divide the syllables from a single word, first, we pronounce the word. Then we focus on our sound breakages in pronouncing a single word. We will count the number of breakpoints and at these breakpoints, we will divide our word into segments of syllables
Example:
Let’s take another 3 syllable word example. The word is “Limited”. Now what we learn, first we see the number of vowels in a word that tell us that this word has three syllables. Then, try to pronounce the word. I pronounce the words and feel there are three break points in this word. I will divide this word according to the breakpoints I felt as Li–mi–ted. That’s how I separate a 3 syllable word into three syllables.
