Dyadic communication:
Dyadic communication is a conversation between two people. Only two people can hold this conversation. It is defined as, “face-to-face communication between two persons at the same time at same place.” This is the proper definition of dyadic communication.
Conditions:
Dyadic communication is as simple to understand as it is looking. Following are the two conditions to meet the criteria otherwise it would be Oral Communication.
- It is a communication between two individuals. There is no space for a third or more persons’ involvement.
- Both two persons must face-to-face each other.
- It is a must for both senders and receivers to be at the same time and same place.
Senders and Receivers:
- The sender is the person who is passing some information or idea.
- The receiver is the person who is listening to the sender’s information or idea.
Oral communication:
Oral communication is just like the dyadic one. But it is free of limitations. Oral communication is simply the passing of information to an individual or a group. It can be formal or informal. Oral Communication can be dyadic but dyadic communication can never be oral communication.
What is the Need for Dyadic Communication:
Sometimes, the purpose of conversation can be just to collect or pass the information from the other person. In such cases, two persons are enough to hold the conversation to collect or pass the useful data or information. The involvement of others can make it more complex. That is why dyadic communication has been introduced to cover the gap.
Following are the examples of where dyadic communication is needed:
1-Therapy Sessions:
It can be a therapy session. Because therapies are performed between two persons, a therapist and a victim.
2-Crime Scene investigation:
It can be a crime scene investigation between a policeman and a homicide. Crime scene investigations are dyadic because there is a detective who has a given task to solve the case. The second person is a homicide who has committed a crime.
3-Job Interviews:
Mostly job interviews are also dyadic. There is just a senior person of a firm and a person who is here to apply for the vacancy.
Advantages of Dyadic Communication:

1-Better Understanding:
Dyadic communication can be performed between just two individuals who are sitting face-to-face with each other. I think it gives both of the individuals to understand one another in a more good way. It is one of the key advantages of this communication.
2-Comfortness:
As there are only two individuals in the conversation. So it gives them complete privacy to share their ideas or emotions more easily and comfortably. Just think of it that you have to give a presentation on some topic. Is it not more comfortable for you to present in front of a single person rather than a group?
3-Conciseness:
Conciseness is one of the great advantages of diadic communication. You can clearly express your feelings, emotions, and ideas to the other person in a concise way. It helps to avoid any misunderstandings and confusion. It gets to a clear-cut point.
4-Time saving:
It can not waste your time. For example, if you own a company. You have a plan for the company’s growth and you want to share your plan with your team. But you are a very busy person. It would be difficult for you to arrange a meeting and then communicate your thoughts to all the team members. It will require a lot of time. All you have to do is just communicate your idea to your personal secretary and ask him to share it with other members. This is one of the great advantages.
5-Attention seeking:
It would be a great source to seek attention. Most people love to live under spotlights. This would be a great opportunity for them to get the full attention of each other. In a group, it is difficult to gain attention. But if you are in a face-to-face person talk, it will be more easier for you to gain attention.
6-Persuasiveness:
There is a great advantage of persuading in dyadic communication. Because it would be easier for to persuade a single person who is sitting face-to-face and listening to you attentively.
Effective tips to improve Dyadic Communication:
1- Always be confident. This is the most effective tip for improving your communication.
2- You must be well prepared for the topic that will be going to a part of your discussions, the next day. It gives you more confidence.
3- Aware of the receiver’s mood and taste. Talk mostly about what he or she likes to talk.
4- Start a conversation with simple language to make sure that it will be easier for the receiver to understand.
5- Be Humurous. Add some interesting and amusing information. It will create a friendly environment.
6- Don’t be too much talkative. Pass your words and pause for a few seconds. Give the other person more time to respond to your answers. It will add value to what you are saying is worth taking.
7- Maintaing eye contact builds a connection. It also shows that you are interested in listening to the other.
